Overall Objectives

Participants will be able to recognize potential for a particular hazardous weather event.

Participants will be able to estimate time of impact of a particular weather event.

Participants will be able to use weather data to make intelligent decisions about the event.

Fire Weather Objectives

Participants will be aware of the potential impacts of current weather conditions on wildfire ignition and spread.

Participants will know how to relate short-term forecasts of weather conditions to wildfire ignition and spread.

Participants will be able to interpret the components of the Oklahoma Fire Danger Rating System.

Participants will be able to use Oklahoma Mesonet data to identify wind, temperature, and humidity patterns that will affect fire propagation.

Participants will be familiar with pertinent forecasts, alerts, watches, and warnings issued by the National Weather Service and other appropriate agencies.

Participants will be familiar with information about fire weather that is available via the WWW, including OK-FIRST, the Oklahoma Mesonetwork, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Forestry Division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.
