Unisys Satellite Receiver System for NEXRAD Data Installed

One of the major benefits of OK-FIRST is its ability to redistribute NEXRAD radar data to state and local public safety agencies. This privilege has been made possible by a special arrangement with Unisys Weather Information Services of Kennett Square, PA.

For OK-FIRST, the system downloads the radar products from 14 radars via a satellite receiver. The system (hardware installation was completed on March 18, 1997) typically receives each product within seconds of the time each radar creates the product.

The available products consist of the entire NIDS product suite, plus value-added radar mosaics created by Unisys.

A suite of products called NIDS (NEXRAD Information Dissemination Service) products is available for each of the following sites. In addition, Unisys creates mosaic products which combine information from all of the radars into a single graphic. These value-added products are also available.
